I'm still digging through the keep boxes! Here a some of my re-discoveries for this evening...
My "October Angel"...my Grandma Collier got this for me for my second birthday, October 30, 1959 ~ I was born at 11:58 p.m. ~ 2 minutes until Halloween!...(she's going out in my bookshelves, not back in the keep box) ~ these little figurines used to be so popular; even in the 1970s versions of them were still available (and probably still are) ~ my oldest daughter Mandy had the little "numbered" girls...I don't remember how many she has (they went to live with her), but I know we didn't make it all the way to sixteen before the interest in them kind of fizzled out...:)
Various good stuff! More of my Mom's little books, The Little Red Hen and Loraine and the Little People (copright 1915), a little wooden shoe that was also my Mom's (her father, my Grandpa, had a restaurant and would often let Gypsies/Travelers park their caravans on the property; in return they gave my Mom and grandparents all sort of interesting little things...), and vintage crocheted doilies.
From Loraine and the Little People; "Crest o' the Wave and the King of the Mer-People"... the Art Nouveau influence is so obvious in these pretty illustrations! The book was written by Elizabeth Gordon and illustrated by M.T. (Penny) Ross.
One of the little Fairy Folk, painting Tiger Lilies...
The "Queen of Sleep", with her poppies...
Jack Frost ~ I think this is my favorite one ~ look at the jingle bells on the mousie's tails!
Look at this...vintage "Extract of Chestnut Leaves" from Eli Lilly, 1917. Supposedly good for circulation and digestion, and a whole host of maladies. There's still some in there! (It would destroy what's left of the cork to try and empty it; I don't think I'll be trying it, anyway.)
That's it for tonight! Hope you've enjoyed looking at more of my hoard...
Happy Friday!
